Thanks to the Elisha Graves Otis’ creative approach, the human race stepped into a whole new world of the living. It was in 1852 when the world’s first Hoisting System (we now call elevator) was successfully tested and verified as the most advanced vertical transportation solution of its time.

Thanks to the Otis’ magnificent innovation, the architecture industry stepped into a new style of construction, the skyscrapers. Initially, it began from 10-storey buildings not more than 42-m high.

By the 1880s standards, the Home Insurance Building successfully demonstrated the construction of the 10-storey high-rise building in Chicago in 1885. Even more impressive is the fact that the building was fireproof, both internally and externally, thanks to the metal structure of the large windows.

The gravity system based on the steel frame set the real game-changing trend to help tall buildings achieve greater heights than ever before. The load-bearing masonry system wasn’t capable of helping the structure beyond 15-stories. This problem was detected by the Monadnock Building in 1893 when it constructed a 17-story building, the tallest of its time. But the walls had to be fairly thick, i.e. 1.8 meter which means that the building’s net-lettable-area was too small.

Then the Washington Monument was overshadowed by the Eiffel Tower in 1889. It changed the concept of the high rise building architecture.

High Rise Buildings Since the 1950s

The technological advancements from 1950 to 1970 helped the architects to achieve the unthinkable. The high-strength blots were now used instead for the hot-driven rivets. The world began to see the glass-metal curtain wall.

Along with technological advancements, there came behavioral challenges. It required a far deeper understanding of the tall-behavior. The engineers had to look into the wind loads which could take down a super-tall structure to the ground in a matter of minutes.

A form of the High Rise Buildings

In the beginning, the structure of the buildings determined its design or form. The structural material itself assumed the major part of the design. But today, the designers have the freedom to do something never done before. The advanced techniques have enabled our  Architects, engineers and designers to construct the design that doesn’t mainly depend on the structure of the building. Now you have more choices to determine the shape and the outlook of the building. You can choose the concept you prefer instead of relying on the uncontrollable factors which dominated in the past.

Today, it is more about sustainability. The architects are more inclined towards designing sustainable high rise buildings. The fundamentals are still the same, the focus remains on efficient energy consumption and waste management. The fact is that the high rise buildings require more energy as well as material. It is the responsibility of the architects to work on minimizing the additional energy consumption and material. For this reason, it is important to make use of the latest techniques adopted in advanced countries. This is one way of placing India into the list of the rising and advanced countries and it is our responsibility to help our nation rise in the most efficient manner.

How Arcmax Architect Achieves Sustainability for High Rise Buildings in India?

At Arcmax Architects, We are working on three R’s:

i. Reduce

ii. Reuse

iii. Recycle

Thanks to the latest methodologies, we can now work more efficiently by reducing the consumption of the material, reusing the material and recycling the material. It wasn’t possible before because of the lack of sufficient knowledge, methods, and resources to make these things happen. Now we can successfully reduce the energy cost per unit by using efficient material processing techniques. We can use the by-products to create the material we need by cutting down the cost.

Our aim is at taking India to new heights by contributing to our economy and helping the businesses to grow. High rise buildings are essential for all economies, especially those rising from the below and setting the new trends.

Everything has its own limitations. The selection of the design does depend on the budget. Complex designs may ask a lot in terms of investment. The construction cost rises steeply with the complexity of the design. But our designers at Arcmax Architects and Planners are capable of carefully designing the sophisticated structure while keeping the cost under check. This is what makes us the leading architect and high rise building design service provider in India. We offer our services in Ahmadabad, Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata, Surat, Chennai, Hyderabad, Indore, Bhopal and Mumbai and Anywhere in India.
