Some of the malls that we visit today are extraordinary in exterior design.
Not only is the design innovative but it is also state-of-the-art in its structure. Some parts of the building may be aerodynamic and appear as though it is bending in the wind. While other parts of the exterior seem to appear as though it has been constructed of fine mirrored glass tile—giving it a “palace” like appearance.
This type of design is brought to life by the highly creative minds of modern architects. These professionals are geared to being able to think out of the box and break down the traditional walls of design.
Some of these exterior facades are so high-end that they look as if they are actually places you would see at a resort. Most malls that have this high-end look or have had some reconfiguration done to the shopping mall exterior design will have also taken time to implement corporate LED lighting on the outside of the building. This ensures that the entire complex is well lit on the outside and that there are no darkened areas in the parking lot when visitors are returning to their cars after dark.
Commercial LED lighting can have a lifespan of up to 25 years or more before needing to be replaced. Which makes it very expensive to implement into a project that big, but it will pay for itself over time. Architects who specialize in shopping mall exterior design know that it is more than just designing architectural blue prints for a new building.
There are many different design elements that need to be considered in the process. Today’s professional architect’s creativity almost demands that they give the public the “Wow factor” that they are expecting with a new and modern facility. Gone are the days when customers are satisfied with a strip mall. When you have a building that is visually pleasing to the public, the people are going to come there and shop and teenagers will apply there for part-time jobs. People like gathering places and one of the best ways to capitalize on that is to build a mall. The idea is to not just design a mall for traditional shopping but to also make it a place where some parts of the design are where people can meet for other activities after the retail shops have closed. The concept of the modern architect is “If you build it the people will come and enjoy it”
That is why it is important for them to be creative enough to think out of the box of traditional design. Their creativity gives them a chance to do what has not been done before with malls that were built in the past. Let’s face it—malls are built today with entertainment in mind. And that is not a concept that is likely to turn into just a fad and soon fade away. It’s only going to get more interesting from here on out…stay tuned.
